Goodbye USA - Hello Dubai!

USA Visa is expiring and I found a photo job in Dubai (which I ended up not taking!!)  But I decided to come to Dubai for work and plan on having an exhibition here.  I'm working on some ideas right now - mixed media.  I have no idea how long I will end up staying in Dubai, but for now I'm living with my Dad.  Not too shabby.  :)

The last couple weeks in LA I spent with Joey.  Lots of trips around - Rodeo Drive, Downtown LA (which is awesome for photo taking!)  I think I am actually obsessed with taking photos - to the point that I can no longer look at things without framing them in my vision! And I kinda freak out in my mind when I get in the sea/ride a bike as I can't take pictures....  I must be a nightmare to hang out with, ADD madness!

Rodeo Drive

I am excited for new things in Dubai but sad to be leaving LA.  I met some lovely friends here.  Sue-Na and her boyfriend Mike were always fun to hang out with.  Cooking/baking Sunday for one!  Anders and Todd were like big brothers who looked out for me.  And I will miss living with Le and Joey.  I also was spoilt with acupuncture treatments, which I must say - IS THE BEST THING EVER.  Mike is super, super talented and worked his wonders on helping me and making me feel like a new person.  I'm all for chinese medicine!  Even with 8 needles in one ear - eek!

I'm sure I will be back in LA next year.  There's only so much skype dating one can manage!

Eye Heart Photos update!

Just a short post to say that www.joannetolner.com is now up and running!

Changed the layout and added some more photos to the portfolio.  It actually got featured on wix.com as website of the day which was exciting!  Wrote some lovely things about the style and the ease of use etc.  All good as it brings a lot of traffic to the website. :)

Currently working on a new project for eyeheartphotos... I'm making online photo tutorials and how-to's for youtube.  Exciting.  Watch this space!

Getty Villa & Walk of Fame

Some dear friends from Thailand visited, which was so amazing to see them as I never wouldn't have expected we'd meet up again in America of all places!  We went to the Walk of Fame as tourists.  Santa Monica 3rd Street walkabout too.  Was sad to see them leave and it made me miss all my friends back in Bangkok.  Sent a little package home to ma and pa and my sis though!

Another friend Leyla, came to stay for the weekend from Vegas - Le, Leyla and I took a trip to The Getty Villa - all of our first times... had to make an appointment. All very strange but so so beautiful and the architechure is breathtaking.  How does one live there?  hmm.  I'll have to give John Paul a ring...

Home in Venice

Since the San Fran trip Joey and I finally found a lovely home near Venice Beach. Big rooms and big living room and kitchen.  I bought an apron!  Banana bread was the usual weekend baking!

We found an amazing bike with a basket for only $50 on craigslist...  exactly what I needed for riding to Santa Monica or down to the beach.  The Weather in Cali is perfect for bike riding - there's no humidity there and it's sunny with crisp cool air.  Had so much fun riding along Venice beach... riding and photographing is pretty tough though!  Danger zone.

My beautiful bike

I went back along the beach a few times.  On my bike and with my sweet friend Sue-Na.  Tonnes of crazies on that beach though....
Favourite =  homeless man begging for 'money to kill the homeless'  HILarious.

My new chum invited us to a cool Andy Warhol exhibition in a funky cafe...  peach tea delights.  Here are some snaps as of course, I never leave the house without the nikon.  (That's a lie... on my bike I take a little canon thing I can beat up and it won't matter... I'm clumsy)

I bought these from a local artist on Venice beach.  "tits & ass"

Fabulous bathroom

Oh - a stop off for tacos... and a prayer.  hah.
